Tibet is one of the world's most extraordinary
destinations and there is adventure indeed
lurking around almost each and every corner.
Since the late 1970s the Chinese and Tibetan
mountaineering associations have been issuing
permits to foreign climbers for Mount Everest
and other summits. The majority of these
mountains are part of the high Himalayas between
Everest and Shishapangma, though several other
interesting 7000-meter and 6000-meter peaks have
been opened on other regions of Tibet. Here is

Mount Cho Oyu Expedition in Tibet

The world's sixth highest
mountain Cho Oyu (8201m) is
situated on the Nepal/Tibet
border, just 40 miles west of
Mount Everest. Cho Oyu was first
attempted in 1952 by an
expedition organized and
financed by the Joint Himalayan
Committee of Great Britain as
preparation for an attempt on
Mount Everest the following
year. The expedition was led by
Eric Shipton and included Tom
Bourdillon, but technical
