Tamang heritage treks is the newly developed
tourism product, off the beaten track, which
highlights an ancient lifestyle combining it
with picturesque scenery and healing baths in
natural hot springs which is developed by the
tourism for rural poverty alleviation program.
This trek takes you through Tamang villages with
its life and culture. You will receive hearty
felicitation by the locals rich in their
distinct costumes, architecture of their
mountain houses and ancient monasteries. It
offers you wilderness experience through
beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat
meadows and rhododendron forests. The people of
this region are mostly Tibetans who came from
Kerung in Tibet across the border and settled in
Nepal. In earlier days, the citizenship of Nepal
would not be offered to real Tibetans, so they
changed their ethnicity to Tamang, which is what
they still write till date. The cultural and
traditions of these people are similar to the
Tibetan across the border.
Tamana heritage trek basically starts from
Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang,
Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang
valley and Kyangjin Gompa. Goljung, Gatlang and
Langtang are traditional Tamang villages
culminating cultural features. The visit to
beautiful local Tamang monastery and the holy
Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang adds delight to
your trekking. During the trekking you enjoy the
dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m.),
Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by
Ganjala Pass (5122m.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m.),
Jugal Himal, Paldor peak, Ganesh Himal, ,
Manaslu, Shringi Himal, and Sanjen Himal ranges.
