Panch Pokhari is situated to the north east of
Kathmandu valley and west of Rolwaling Himalaya
located at an altitude of 4100 meters, which is
offers pristine mountain views, rich culture and
genuine adventure. Panch Pokhari is named is
after 5 holy ponds of great religious
significance. The trek starts from (1410m) and
goes up to (4100m) at Panch Pokhari, a seldom
visited pilgrimage site where the Janaipurnima
festival is held in August. Many Hindu and
Buddhist pilgrimages visit this site each year.
This trek starts from the large Bazaar of
Chautara (1410m), descends to the Balephi Khola,
and then follows a ridge to Bhairav Kunda, a
holy lake at 3500m. The route then makes a
circuit around the head of the Balephi Khola
Valley to Panch Pokhari at 3600m. From Panch
Pokhari, the trail leads to Tarke Gyang in
Helambu, then back to Kathmandu. During the rest
of our 12 days trip, we observe the different
ways of life, culture and come in contact with
the people in the small village, passing through
the dense forestations and meadows.
