Mustang is a very popular for horse riding
trekking region in Nepal, which lies in the
northern central part of Nepal and at the top of
the Kaligandaki River where the languages,
culture and traditions are alike to those of the
Tibetan people. This area is consider as one of
the most interesting and picturesque places in
Nepal. The whole area has an isolated and
mystical feel to it, enchanting and inspiring
visitors to this region.
The Damodar Lakes are located three days walk
north east of the main Mustang trekking route &
very close to the border with Tibet. Damodar
Kunda lies on restricted upper mustang between
Kagbeni and Muktinath which is famous for Hindu
religion, it is situated rain shadow are of High
Himalayas north of Annapurna range. The
elevation of the Damodar Kund is just (4890m) it
is cold and windy place. We will recommend to
you visit during the full moon of August every
year, because every year there is a big festival
up there many pilgrimages Hindu and Buddhist
visit full moon of August. Usually, you can
visit April to September every year. Festival
time is great for visiting Damodar Kund. From
Damodar Kund, the views are excellent. From some
viewpoints a bit higher than the lakes, (just a
short climb up some of the hills) you can see
the Tibetan plateau & Damodar Himal to the north
and the Annapurna Himalayan massive to the
south.
This Damodar Kunda horse riding adventure trip
can be combine an alternative day Helicopter
tour programs for a people who have limit time
and are not able to trek due to the physical
conditions.

Trip Description
On the day of your arrival, a
briefing program will be
arranged in your hotel to brief
you about the daily program
during trek. The second day will
be a Kathmandu excursion day and
you will visit some heritage and
pilgrimage sites of Kathmandu
such as Durbar Square,
Kasthamandap, Swoyambhunath
(Monkey temple), Patan Durbar
Square, Krishna temple, etc. The
next day you will have a scenic
6-7 hours of drive through the
bank of Trishuli & Marshyangdi
River to Pokhara of Kaski
district. The fourth day is the
real starting of your horse ride
adventure to Holy Lake of
Damodar Kunda trek begins with a
25 minutes short flight from
Pokhara to Jomsom passing
through a narrow slice between
the tips of two Himalayan
giants: Dhaulagiri (8167m) and
Annapurna I (8091m). The horse
riding route heads northward
along the banks of Kali Gandaki
gorge which is the deepest in
the world till Kagbeni, a
fascinating old citadel where
ancient trails crisscross. The
horse riding route towards north
and beyond is the forbidden land
of upper Mustang. For the next
10-12 days, passing through the
ancient villages like Samar,
Ghiling and Tsarang finally
leads to Lo (3750m), the walled
capital city of Mustang. The
villages and monasteries around
the capital city like Namgyal
Gompa, the village of Thinkar,
Ghyarphu and Narphu are worth a
visit where people still live in
cave dwellings cut into
surrounding cliffs. The return
horse riding route from Lo can
be made more exciting by passing
over Dri and Yara with a day
horse ride trip to Luri Gompa.
Then we continues horse ride to
Damodar Kunda, which is lies on
restricted upper mustang between
Kagbeni and Muktinath which is
famous for Hindu religion, it is
situated rain shadow are of High
Himalayas north of Annapurna

coming out over Tetang, visiting
the holy temple of Muktinath and
then descending to Jomosom and
flying back to Pokhara or
continue trek to Ghorepani Poon
hill and ending at Pokhara but
most of trekkers trek to upper
Mustang go to Lo-Manthang and
return same route for their
easier option. To arrange Upper
Mustang trekking need a special
permits which is cost USD 500
per person for the 10 days and
after 10 days per day per person
USD 50. |
