Langtang is the first Himalayan National Park
designated in 1970A.D. Langtang is in the north
of Katmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The
national park is allowing the local people to
live their lives within the park and therefore a
unique harmony between humans and nature can be
seen in this zone. The forest has diverse flora
fauna, wild animals and birds together with more
than 40 villages, scenic lakes, glaciers and
imposing Himalayan peaks. On the trek you can
explore the views of mountains like Himal Chuli
(7864m), Manaslu (8156m) and others. The
Langtang valley is also renowned for the famous
lake Gosaikunda; the forest in Langtang National
park is a prime example of temperate and
sub-alpine vegetation's. The dense oak & pine
forests on the trail up the langtang valley area
are of particular interest for everyone. The
rhododendrons form a spectacular display during
spring; wildlife in the area is dominated by
main bird species with migratory birds using the
Gosanikunda Area as a temporary sanctuary. Deer
& monkeys in the lower forest and Thar and Pica
on the alpine hillside can be found.
This Botanical treks begins as similar to the
Langtang valley trek except that return takes a
different route passing through an entirely
different valley. We drive to Dhunche and
further to Shyabrubensi then start of the trek.
We trek to Lama Hotel then crossing the Langtang
Khola, we start our climb up the Langtang valley
through excellent forests. Magnificent views are
seen from Kyangjin Gomba and visiting glacier or
climb the peaks at a comfortable low elevation.
An optional climb to the Yala peak provides
stunning views into Tibet. From Kyanjin
descending to Langtang, Ghoretabala and Syabru,
we ascent through fir & rhododendron forest to
Sing Gompa. The route then deviates and we reach
the Hindu holy lakes at Gosaikunda, a famous
pilgrimage site. Here we have superb views of
the central and eastern Himalayan peaks. The
trail proceeds to the Tharepati pass, and then
drops down to the picturesque Sherpa village of
Helambu. The entire Helambu region 72 km
north-east of Kathmandu has several highland
Tamang and Sherpa villages scattered on both
sides of the Melamche Khola.
