Gorkha is situated 131 Kms western of the
Kathmandu at an 1135m altitude is located
northern of the Kathmandu. There is view of
ethnic village and dense forest with gorgeous
Himalayan flora and fauna on the mountain range
of Ganesh, Langtang and Manaslu are the basic
fascinating to the trekkers on the remote trip.
Gorkha is the historical town and birthplace of
King Prithabi Narayan Shah is the founder of
modern Nepal. This area is located on a hill
overlooking the observe peaks of the Himalayas.
There is also found ancient palace and temple of
Gorakhnath. From the top of the hill above the
Gorkha palace a saddle eastern part of the
Gorkha Bazzar.
Place interest and over views:
Gorkha Durbar: Gorkha Durbar is a
historical palace, situated on the top of the
hill. To reach Durbar the visitors have to climb
1500 stone steps. Gorkha Durbar is a fort, a
palace and a temple. There is a statue of a sage
in the palace. The sage was called as Gorakhnath
Baba and it is believed that the name of Gorkha
was derived from his name, whose blessings
inspired King Prithvi Narayan Shah for the
unification of Nepal. From Gorkha Palace, the
view of Manaslu and Himalchuli is marvelous.
Gorkha Bazaar: It is a cobbled street
market where people from neighboring hill come
to trade.
Gorkhnath Cave: 10 meters below the
Gorkha Palace is the sacred cave temple of
Gorkhanath. The cave was carved out of solid
rock and it is among the most religious sites
for Brahmin’s and Chhetri’s of Nepal.
Uppallaokot: Uppallaokot is situated at a
20 minutes walking distance from Gorkha Palace
at an altitude of 1520m. From Uppallaokot,
visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of
Gorkha Palace and snow-covered peaks.
Manakamana: It is the temple of holy
goddess of aspirations, which is a famous
pilgrimage site for Hindus.
Kalika Mandir: This temple was built by
King Ram Shah which is full of psychedelic
fantasy of carved peacocks, demons and serpents.
Only the Brahmin priest and King can enter the
temple, but non-Hindus are allowed to observe
sacrifices which are done in the temple.
Dhuni Pati: Dhuni Pati was the former
palace of the King Prithvi Narayan Shah. The
palace is covered in elaborate wood carvings and
windows in a shape of Garuda. Non-Hindus cannot
enter in Dhuni Pati.
