Gokyo Renjo-La pass trekking is challenging
trekking trail in Everest region which you can
do either from Thame village to Gokyo valley or
Gokyo valley to Thame village which provides you
with magnificent views of snowy peaks. The one
of the highlight of this trek are Gokyo peak
(5483m). The Renjo-La Pass route is off the
usual beaten tracks. At the pass, a great vista
of Gokyo lakes on one side and Rermo Pokhari
Lake on the other side and the myriad snowy
peaks in the background brings up a fascinating
atmosphere.
This trek begin at Lukla, in the heart of the
Khumbu region, this trek proceeds north up the
Dudh Kosi Valley to Mache Bazaar, the major
trading centre of the region. From Namche the
trail follows the Imja Khola, with marvelous
views on the way of Khumbu Himal, Thamserku and
Kanteg with Amadablam in the distance and
Everest and Lhotse dominating the skyline ahead.
From Gokyo, we ascend to Gokyo Ri, sometimes
described as Nepal’s ultimate viewpoint,
commanding awe-inspiring views of the vast
Ngozumpa Glacier, Cho Oya with its neighbor
Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest rising above a fluted
ridge, Lhotse and Makalu. We head out westwards
to Renjo-La pass and after crossing here we trek
to Thame village, which was the home of the
young Tenzing Norgay, Everest’s famous pioneer
Sherpa, eventually retracing to Lukla via the
main trail.
